The brief

The university’s historical archive needed software to describe its holdings and to read its documents, including handwritten ones. Alongside it: a helpdesk, a password vault, and a wiki to take over from an old DokuWiki. I had two weeks.

What I set up

AtoM, Gramps Web and eScriptorium on the university’s Hyper-V cluster. A Docker host managed with Portainer, behind an Nginx reverse proxy with HTTPS, with Microsoft Entra ID sign-in wherever the software supports it. Tesseract, OCRmyPDF and ArchiveOCR for the archive staff. Zammad, Vaultwarden and Outline for the rest.

Netdata in a parent and child setup across the three Hyper-V hosts and the service VMs, so one place shows the state of all of them.

Handing it over

A script moved 26 pages of legacy DokuWiki documentation into Outline. Then I documented the environment itself, with guides for users and for administrators in English and in German.
